About Kawa-Kawa Hill

Kawa-Kawa Hill and Natural Park in Ligao City, Albay, is a unique eco-tourism and pilgrimage destination famous for its crater-like summit, life-sized Stations of the Cross, and bamboo conservation area. Known as the "Hill Without a Hilltop," this 25-hectare park sits in Barangay Tuburan and offers a scenic and spiritual escape in the Bicol Region.

The hill takes its name from the Bicolano word "kawa," meaning cauldron, because its summit forms a sunken, crater-like depression surrounded by an 836-meter rim. Visitors can hike the 500-meter uphill path to reach the top, where a concrete walkway along the crater rim provides panoramic views of Ligao City, nearby towns, and even Lake Bato in Camarines Sur. The first eight Stations of the Cross line the walkway, while the remaining six are installed around the crater ring, making the climb a moving spiritual experience. At the foot of the hill, the life-sized Last Supper sculpture marks the beginning of the trail.

The park is also home to a five-hectare bambusetum, a bamboo conservation area that showcases 38 bamboo species. This lush section features bamboo-made facilities, a bamboo hanging bridge, and a 60-foot bamboo Christmas tree, making it both an educational and picturesque stop. The summit's flat, grassy plateau serves as a camping ground and activity area, where visitors can enjoy cool breezes, sunrise and sunset views, and a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by greenery.

Kawa-Kawa Hill is especially popular during Holy Week, when thousands of pilgrims visit to pray the Way of the Cross. The Divine Mercy Monastery, run by Carmelite nuns, is also located at the site, adding to its solemn and reflective character. Whether for hiking, camping, photography, or spiritual reflection, Kawa-Kawa Hill and Natural Park offers a memorable blend of nature, faith, and adventure in Albay.
