Mirisbiris Nature Garden Center

Mirisbiris Nature Garden Center in Santo Domingo, Albay, is a garden and nature destination with a forest, footpath, view deck, and hanging bridge extending to the Albay Gulf. This non-profit nature preserve and lodge is a peaceful escape just outside Legazpi City, offering a unique mix of forest, sea, and conservation-focused experiences.

The center sits on a 1-hectare hillside main area with family-style rooms, a restaurant, an organic garden, and a gazebo. Across it lies a 9-hectare Singapore-style forest with an engineered footpath, a view deck, and a hanging bridge that leads down to the shores of Albay Gulf. The forest is home to about 1,000 plant species, many of them endemic, and the one-hour trek through the greenery is a highlight for visitors. The trail ends at a private beach area with pillow lava rocks, and snorkeling is possible when the weather permits. On clear days, Mayon Volcano can be seen nearby, adding to the scenic backdrop.

Founded by Chris and Glenda Newhall, Mirisbiris operates as a social enterprise, with income from guests going to scholarships and educational programs for the local youth. The center is also recognized for its environmental work, having received the Saringaya Award from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in 2017. It uses solar energy and practices water harvesting, with almost all of its water coming from rain. The name "Mirisbiris" comes from an old Bikol word for the sound of water running over rocks.

Whether for a day tour, an overnight stay, or a nature retreat, Mirisbiris Garden and Nature Center offers a refreshing blend of forest, sea, and community spirit in Albay.
